Santa Fe Habitat’s Construction Crew Leaders
For 14 years, Santa Fe Habitat has been awarded funds by the Corporation for National and Community Service to welcome AmeriCorps members to serve with us in the role of Construction Crew Leaders. This program makes it possible for our non-profit to achieve its construction goals of building six homes in Santa Fe annually.
Habitat AmeriCorps
Habitat for Humanity International is one of the first organizations to partner with AmeriCorps.
Habitat AmeriCorps members have been proudly serving communities across the country for over 25 years. Since the program’s inception in 1994, more than 11,256 AmeriCorps members have worked with Habitat to serve more than 122,758 individuals, engaging more than 4.2 million volunteers and raising tens of millions of dollars to meet the housing needs of families in the U.S. In a recent study, local Habitat organizations that hosted AmeriCorps members increased new construction by 13%, compared with non-host organizations.
This national service program is an avenue for developing the next generation of leaders by fostering new home building skills, as well as project and volunteer engagement. AmeriCorps members make it possible for Habitat for Humanity affiliates to serve more families and graduate as true leaders and advocates for affordable housing.
To participate, members apply for and work full-time for at least one year at nationwide Habitat for Humanity affiliates. They are paid a stipend for their service and Habitat for Humanity covers roughly half the cost of each service member, delivering results at a much lower cost than direct government services. Santa Fe Habitat + AmeriCorps
Santa Fe Habitat AmeriCorps members play an integral role in providing leadership on our project sites, engaging volunteers to become champions for our mission and creating new tools and systems to build capacity. Construction Crew Leaders serve as ambassadors for our organization, interacting with over 500 volunteers, homeowner families, and community stakeholders. During a year of service with our affiliate, members gain insight into the inner workings of a non-profit organization and gain hands on experience in leadership, public speaking, and community development.
We value our AmeriCorps volunteers and invite you to apply to work with Santa Fe Habitat in the future. Please contact Director of Volunteer & Family Services, Pascual Hernandez at [email protected], or by calling (505) 986-5880 ext. 102 to discuss AmeriCorps service opportunities for the 2024-2025 service year at Santa Fe Habitat.
