This year, Santa Fe Habitat will begin construction on two donated properties in the Plaza Bonita Subdivision located in the southeastern section of the City thanks to the generosity of Borrego Construction.
Santa Fe Habitat’s home building mission is only possible when there is available land on which we can raise more affordable housing. Our nonprofit called out to the community last year in critical need for more properties. We have nearly completed construction on our final lots in the Oshara Village Subdivision on the south side of Santa Fe. Borrego Construction stepped up to the plate by donating two lots – on Calle Bonita and Calle Preciosa – in the Plaza Bonita Subdivision, behind the CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.
Borrego Construction is collaborating with an award-winning local interior design firm, Jennifer Ashton Interiors, to construct an attractive community of homes. The Plaza Bonita residential subdivision is situated in a central part of town on 14.5 acres and consists of 65 residential lots ranging in size. The architectural styles featured in this subdivision include “Contemporary Santa Fe” and “Transitional Pueblo.”
All donations to Santa Fe Habitat exceeding $500, including the donation of land, are eligible for New Mexico Affordable Housing Tax Credits – where 50% of each donation is returned to the donor in the form of Tax Credits through the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority. Thanks to this program, Borrego Construction will receive Tax Credits for supporting local affordable housing. The City of Santa Fe offers incredible incentives to build affordable housing, including a requirement that each subdivision dedicates some of their lots to affordable housing. This donation together with the affordable homes already built by Borrego Construction will fulfill the City’s requirement for the Plaza Bonita Subdivision Project.
Borrego Construction is a locally owned and operated construction company building quality homes in Santa Fe, New Mexico since 1977. Their projects include both residential new construction and commercial building. The company is managed by Jim, Rick, and Bobby Borrego, who have deep roots in the Santa Fe community and construction industry. Their team presents highly skilled management, expertise, and a combined experience of over 90 years in construction.
Santa Fe Habitat thanks the Borrego Family for this generous donation and praises their commitment to local affordable housing. Because of their donation, along with the properties Santa Fe Habitat secured from winning the City of Santa Fe’s RFQ on Alto Street, we have enough land on which to build 6-8 more homes in the New Year.
